Married Dominance and Submission Community Theme | Dog Days of Summer
July is upon us. Summer’s heat and humidity has arrived, it’s the Dog Days of Summer. The Married Dominance and Submission Community Theme this month is “Doggy Days of Summer”. SubMrs and husDOM is the place to learn and the place to belong in Married Dominance and Submission. D|s-M, Married Dominance and Submission is Marriage’s Sexiest Secret.
Our theme is in reflection of “The Dog Days of Summer”. This title describes the most oppressive period of summer, between July 3rd and August 11th each year. The days are the hot and sultry. They were historically the period following the heliacal or near to the sun, rising of the star system Sirius, which Hellenistic( Greek) astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck. These days have always been said to be NOT EVEN FIT FOR A DOG.
Historically
The phrase “DOG DAYS OF SUMMER” is a reference to the fact that, during this period of time, the Sun occupies the same region of the sky as Sirius, the brightest star visible from any part of Earth and part of the constellation Canis Major, The Greater Dog. This is why Sirius is sometimes called the “Dog Star”. Sirius rises and sets with the Sun. The name “Sirius” stems from Ancient Greek seírios, meaning “scorching.” For the ancient Egyptians, the dawn rising of Sirius (known to them as “Sothis”) also coincided the Nile River’s flood season. They used the star as a “watchdog” for that event.
On July 23rd it is in conjunction with the Sun, and because the star is so bright, the ancient Romans believed the star actually gave off heat like the sun and added to the Sun’s already direct heat. This to them accounted for the long days of sweltry weather. The Romans called these Dog Days as diēs caniculārēs. The Dog Days of Summer came to mean the 20 days before and 20 days after this alignment of Sirius with the Sun, July 3 to Aug. 11.
Community Theme
June’s D|s-M theme or Married Dominance and Submission community theme is “going to the dogs or doggy”. The dog has a special place and symbolism in sexuality, talking about the “Doggy Style”, sex position. The doggy style position, just incase you don’t know, is a rear entry position. This position is where one partner bends over, crouching on all fours, usually on hands and knees, while having sexual intercourse with their partner that is on their knees behind them.
This month we will have live video chats with Library Book Club and our some of our Focus Groups. We will also have a great sex toy to showcase in our Workshop Live Video Chat. As usual we will offer our regular new to the site or to the D|s-M method live chat with our New sub Mentor.
