Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Me! Me! (Waves hands vigorously)

    W/we love needle play… A lot!

Okay… My suggestions and background info for you… First, there’s at least one good book on play piercings… I’d suggest you get one, just for reference.

Then things you really need: isopropyl alcohol or hydrogen peroxide or another good antiseptic, something to wipe blood away with (there WILL be blood – my avatar is my shoulder after a set if five needles were removed) – W/we use cotton make up remover swabs or baby wipes (the swab are better as they absorb more). You’ll need a sharps container and of course needles. You can get the latter two either from online bdsm stores or on eBay. W/we use eBay – it’s cheaper and you can buy in sets of 100 for around $10 (on the Aussie eBay site).

Needle gauges (outside diameter) get larger the thinner the needle is. A 30g needle is almost hair thin while an 18g needle is 1.6mm. W/we use a combination of 30, 23 and 18g needles. W/we use 1/2 inch 30g and either 1 or 1.5 inch long 23 and 18g. Short length like .5 inch can be pin cushioned onto areas with fat or muscle like buttocks, breasts, pubic mound etc. don’t do this with longer ones – you may hit something important.

With longer ones thread it into and then out of the skin. When doin so, remember that the majority of nerves are at the surface – if you go to shallow it WILL hurt like the proverbial. If you go in, through the skin and into muscle, it will hurt through the skin, then feel ‘slidy’ through muscle and then hurt through the skin again. Support the exit point – skin, being elastic will stretch and then means as the needle comes out it will stretch if not supported and this will hurt too.

Needles don’t leave much in the way of wounds, but you can get some spectacular bruises from subcutaneous bruising… This is where, as a result of the needle, the piercing bleeds into surrounding tissue. A good guide as to how bad you’ll bruise is, if blood is dripping (like in my avatar, you’ll probably end up with a big bruise. Beads like the other, probably won’t. I bruise like a little girl (as it were) so I’ve usually got bruising all over the place…

Make sure you use antiseptic, before and after, don’t reuse needles, wear gloves and follow communicable disease precautions if you’re not already fluid bonded to your Dom.

It’s important to remember that needle play IS edge play and potentially dangerous. If you hit anything you shouldn’t have (arteries, internal organs etc) you do need to be prepared to seek medical help. Don’t muck about of that’s the case… Do it quickly.

W/we love needles, it’s incredibly intimate and very intense, but needs to be approached with preparation and respect.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I have used my fair share of needles in my nursing career, however the application is ….well a lot different. I worry about using small gages with longer lengths. There is a potential for breakage. I have had some recommendations to use 25g 1 1/2 inch. Even those seem to thin. The idea is to do parallel rows (on the back) from the shoulders to the waist and create a corset effect with ribbon. A local vender only carries 1 1/2 inch lengths no mater the gage. I am really nervous using a small gage long length. I am thinking a 23 1 1/2 or 25 1 inch. What are your thoughts?

My apologies on teaching you how to suck eggs 😉

In relation to play piercing W/we use the 23g on a regular basis. I prefer the 1.5in length to the one inch as it is less likely to be pulled back into the skin if you’ve miscalculated how far you’ve gone before the exit piercing. W/we never had any issues with breaking – I haven’t even notice any flexing. W/we’ve both over time had in/out piercings in muscle groups that were then used (buttocks for instance) while the needles were in place. There were no issues with the needles flexing that W/we noticed. W/we’ve also used 25g like this but haven’t used smaller gauges except for the .5 inch 30g for ‘pin cushions’.

Corsets look lovely… Two suggestions… 1) pierce outward from the spine – you can then easily thread the ribbon onto the points and it won’t slip off (I know, seems obvious – but I made a mess of it my first time). 2) when you want straight lines, make sure you’re parallel to the shaft of the previous needle and not the plastic at the base. If you line up on that you’ll tend to pierce in lovely even curves, not a straight line…

    Hope this helps
