• That should make a comeback!

I love vintage fashion! Particularly the 1950’s. I love the petticoats, rounded toe platform pumps, a-line dresses with pretty aprons…so beautiful and feminine! A far cry from the sweatpants and Ugg boots I see so many moms wearing to pick their kids up from school.

If there was one piece of vintage fashion that you wish would make a comeback, what would it be? My vote is for the little white gloves ladies used to always wear out in public. They just seem practical to me. We handle so many germ covered grocery carts, door knows, gas pumps…gross! If we made little white gloves cool again, we could potentially keep ourselves healthy during cold and flu season. A sick subbie is a subbie who can’t take care of her Sir. Not to mention protecting your manicure! Also, gloves can help to keep your hands nice and soft. I help Sir with farm chores all the time, but no matter how hot it is I wear work gloves to prevent calloused hands. Let’s face it, Sir does not want a hand job with scratchy calloused hands! It’s not sexy. My Sir appreciates that I make the effort to keep my hands soft.

If you could bring back one 1950’s fashion trend, what would it be and why? Please post your ideas below. This could be a lot of fun!

I would like to see people getting dressed up in general more often. It seems that with each decade we have become more casual. I am guilty. For example in the 50’s a woman would wear a dress to go out to dinner, as a passenger on an airplane, or to go to the theater. I absolutely love when my Sir wears a suit and I am dressed up in a dress with my hair, nails, and makeup “on point”.

  • I enjoy the 1940’s and 1950’s. If I had to pick, I’d pick the Roaring 40’s. Back when the “gangster” was around and calling his girl “Doll”. Hence, why my name is “Hot Doll” on subMrs. And since my “Master Chief” and I have become closer together, I have found that I am dressing up more than I used to and wearing fewer T-Shirts. So I agree with dressing up to go out. You should dress up or clean up for your significant other. Out of love and respect if not for anything else.

I agree with just overall sense of looking nice for the normal day to day things, it makes you feel good when you put the effort into looking good. Going to the grocery store in your pajama bottoms & a t-shirt does not uplift the spirit. I have notice a more confidant walk when I take a little extra time to look my best.

Oh my goodness yes to all of that! Going out in public in pajamas is only ok if you are a hungover college student! LOL! Everyone else, put some pants on please.

I was inly 19 when Sir and i met/started dating. I was a funny 19 year old, i wasn’t out for love, it was a vulnerable time in my life. I wore very modest clothing, i didnt want to be checked out, etc. 4 kids later and it really got worse. My comeback currently is dresses/skirts and a necklace of some form. If i feel good with how i look i feel good about everything else! We are midway through spring so ive had fun playing around with looks!

I loved this! Yes to it all!! I’d love to wear skirts and dresses just so I could wear stockings and garters all the time!! Oh and lovely flowing silk robes, and that hair! I love victory rolls!! My hair is so long that it’s really tough to do, but if it was in style I’d be wearing them everyday!

Okay so Sir loves when I wear my dresses with my petticoats, garters, etc

My hair is so long that I physically can’t do victory rolls well enough to be presentable. So it’s usually brushed back and a head band is used.

When we go shopping or even when just in public Sir requires that either I’m dressed properly, skirt/blouse hair, make up or requested dress/hair/make up.

When its to cold he says Jean’s and slacks are okay but still has to be presentable.

I love the rose lilly 1950 dresses they are absolutely beautiful!

Angie, there is a store near where I live in San Antonio called Broadway Pinups. I love their stuff! I just bought a cute dress to wear for a Valentine’s dinner. I could go crazy in their store. They also have a local lady that makes items for them. So, so cute!

Angie I looked up your rose lily dresses, love them. Marie if I lived anywhere close to TX I would definitely shop there. Sir just bought me 2 more 50s dresses while we were in the big city and 1 40s style. I love them. The dresses I have are all fun patterns. My new ones have fancy doughnuts on black and blue kitties on gold. I’m usually cold so I would be all for gloves coming back. I do have a few pairs of coloured ones I wear out.

I love that era…I used to love an Eloise Wilkens children’s book where it shows a mom in the 1950’s going about her day. As a little girl, I loved that she always wore pearls, heels and an apron when she cooked. She had a matching wool jacket and jaunty hat for when she went grocery shopping.

Now as an adult, I enjoy cooking a dinner for my family and setting the table nicely including candles. If I have time, I will slip into a fancy dress(when do we really wear all those nice clothes we buy?), freshen up make up and put more lipstick on.

When the meal is served in pretty dishes, candles lit and we all gather…I feel like our family is more calm, there is more conversation, less arguing or complaining and I know MrG is relaxing.
