• Introduction to Pet Play

As I am a puppy, most examples will be about puppy play. I can only speak about other pets with information that I’ve read myself, or heard from others.

Simply put, pet play is the act roleplaying as an animal. By playing as an animal, you take on it’s qualities, behaviors, and mindset. The submissive takes on this role and submits their care, on a deep level, to their “Owner” or “Trainer”. A pet is fed, played with, and cared for all at their Owners discretion.

There are also cases where the Dominant will take an animal role as well, and doing so is not a submissive act. They will retain their dominance in all things, as the “Alpha” animal.

There are many obvious animals you can play as, either whichever you identify with the most, or chosen for you by your Dominant. Common ones can include ponies, puppies, cats, bunnies and pigs. I have even read rare cases of cows, seals, or even mythical creatures. It is up to the both of you to make the most meaningful choice.

For me, one of the biggest reasons I enjoy pet play is the forced dependency. With my actions and communication being restricted, I am forced to rely on my Dominant for everything. My very well being is in her hands as she dictates my every action.

Another great reason is purely for cathartic release. When you can maintain your mindset as a pet, you let go of all your human worries. Pets live in the now, and don’t dwell on their pasts, worry about their futures, or other daily stresses. You can release all of that tension, and let your owner care for you. By removing your humanity, you can focus on your Dominant being the only important thing in your life.

This is where your mindset becomes very important. If you can fully let go and adopt your pet persona, you’ll find the possibility of attaining petspace much more feasible. Petspace can be such a freeing experience if you can achieve it, but you should never try to seek it for it will stay out of reach. You need to let go, give up your human concerns and actions, and act purely on instinct guided by your dominant.

Depending on your dynamic, it can also be used as a punishment. Whether acting as a pet is the punishment, or by punishing the pet. Being put out outside, in a cage, or even being muzzled.

There are many levels to pet play to help meet any of your needs. What are you needs? How deep do you want to go? Do you like to don a tail and ears for some kinky sex? While it can certainly be fun, this technically isn’t pet play. Do you bark, mew, or whinny? If so then you are on the right track.

The types of play will obviously depend on your inner animal, but also your personality. Are you a playful puppy who is hyper, bouncing around, and nipping at your Owner? Or would you rather slump down beside them and take a nap? Maybe you’re a cat who likes to curl up on your owners lap and purr while being rubbed. The types of interactions you can have are only limited by your imagination. You just need to let go, focus your mind on being your animal, and let the rest come naturally.

You will most commonly find short sessions for play. Ten minutes to an hour or two is usually more than enough time to meet any specific needs. Whether it is to help you destress after a hard day, or because your Dominant wants to play. Other play sessions can take up to an entire day or longer. These are easier to maintain once you are able to focus on just acting instinctively.

After you have an understanding of how to get started, a next step would be to figure out specific interactions and tools. As a puppy, do you just want to play, or be lazy? Or do you want to go further down the hole into long sessions of training, play and sleep? Animals like puppies and ponies can have more interactive training sessions, being taught commands, and accepting treats from your Dominants hand.

You can implement vocal restrictions, only being allowed to make the sounds of your animal. Others allow simple words like “Up” or “Eat” to make communication smoother. There are also many tools to enforce physical restrictions. There are wraps for your arms and legs that force you to use your elbows and knees. Tails and ears are common, but why not throw in some paw gloves and a harness? Many of your common kink tools can be repurposed.

Toys can also be a ton of fun if you embrace everything. Maybe a scratching post, or batting toys for cats, or some rope for puppies. I have a squeaky hamburger toy to play with if I am getting hungry, turning a toy into useful communication.

It is important to keep safety at the front of your mind. Like many aspects of kink, if done incorrectly, you could end up in danger, so please play safe. Here are some examples:

    • Communication is key. Your owner must stay aware of your physical and mental condition, due to verbal and physical restrictions.

    • If doing extended play sessions, knee pads can become a much needed tool.

    • Training or shock collars can help feed other aspects of your desires, but must be handled with care.

    • Pet food is not healthy for humans. If using treats, use appropriately healthy snacks.

In the end, you need to identify what pet play means to you, and what you want from it. Like all aspects of D|s-M, communication and trust are key components. If you are interested in trying it, take the appropriate steps. Identify your needs, have discussions, and start with small play sessions.

I hope this will help on your first steps to being am obedient pet and growing the trust between you and your Dominant. Thank you for reading.

I love to have kitten time when it’s time to sleep. Sir ᏩᏯ pets my back & hair and “calms my squirrels” so that I’m actually able to sleep before midnight. It’s amazing! (I struggled with insomnia for my whole life before this.) Kittens don’t talk they just lay next to their master and sleep unless it’s playtime. When it’s playtime, I see my kitten side come out because I open up physically the more relaxed and focused I am, much like a cat or dog will let/want their belly rubbed.
