• I used grandma's cold cream for a month…

I was looking for a new facial moisturizer in a big box store one day and was delighted to see something familiar. There on the very bottom shelf near the floor was a jar of cold cream. Not just any cold cream, but the same exact stuff that my Granny B always had on her dresser. I immediately recognized the white jar with the sherbet pink lid. The packaging hadn’t changed at all and was a total blast from the past! At only $3.97 a jar, I tossed it in the cart with zero hesitation. It nothing else, I thought the retro looking jar would look cute on the bathroom counter. The lable showed the same logo that I remembered from Granny’s old jar. Three white ladies; a blonde, a brunette, and a red head. This was probably the height of diversity back then. (Thank God SOME things have changed!)
That night when I was getting ready for bed I decided to give it a try. I opened the jar and was hit with the sweet smell of nostalgia. It was Granny’s scent! I smoothed it onto my face, working my fingertips in small circles the way I had always seem her do. “The small circles scrub off the makeup and get the blood flowing”, she used to say. When I was satisfied that the old makeup from the day had been scrubbed loose I got a tissue and gently wiped it off. Immediately I noticed that there was a ton of dirt and makeup on the tissue. I was nervous about just going to bed without actually using any soap and water as I have struggled with adult acne for the last 3 years or so. I almost felt like I wasn’t actually “clean” because I hadn’t used any harsh soaps. In the morning, I was pleasantly surprised to feel that my skin was softer and a bit tighter than the night before. When I turned on the bathroom light I had to contain a squeal of delight when I saw how much smaller and lighter the bags under my eyes were. After the first week of use, the acne scars that had been accumulating on my face for the past few years were almost completely faded away. Three weeks later, I noticed that the few small wrinkles that had begun to form around my eyes were gone. What really threw me for a loop was when after 4 weeks, Sir mentioned that my skin looked better than when we first met in college! One month of a less than $4 a jar cold cream (and I have only used about 1/6 of the jar) and my skin looks amazing! This was something my Granny had started doing in the 1950’s and continued until she passed away in 1998. If it worked for her for 40 plus years, then I am glad to have found some for myself! Especially since Sir thinks it makes me look nice. Give cold cream a shot ladies! It’s inexpensive and works. Your Sir will love it! Anyone else have a retro beauty secret to share? I’m wondering what other “old school” tricks I could be using to make myself more presentable for my Dom.

I love your memories of your Granny. I have found, too, that often times the cheaper, simpler solution scare the best. 🙂 What is the name of the cold cream, Yoza?

    Yozakura,

I enjoyed reading your post so much. My mother used to use cold cream as well. She has been gone for a long time, but I will always love cold cream. Thank you for the lovely story.

    Hugs,
    Belle-Soumise

  • Yozacura,

Thank you for the post, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for that cream. I have struggled with adult acne as well. So I am willing to try anything to help, for $4 it’s worth a try!

    Kind Regards,
    Daddy’s Little Monster!

I read through your post Yoza and 1) you should write books because you are a great writer and 2) I am going to try that cream! I have acne scars and some wrinkles popping up, too. Thank you for sharing this little gem you found!
