• from snappy mouth to respectful

    Posted by good-pet on at

This last weekend I had a moment, it just clicked. By never being able to tame my smart ass mouth, I was in effect telling Sir to take this lifestyle and get bent. Thanks to the kneeling challenge I came to realize what everyone here had said all along. I may have a smart quick mouth, but have a choice in weather or not to use it. It’s not just about the ability to stop the words from falling out of your mouth, but also your ability to remain positive and respectfully verbalize.

I tend to lash out when I am hurt or disappointed, not my best qualities by far! As I spent last week walking through my thought while kneeling I realized each moment I could have handled differently. Sure, I may still think the snappy answer, but phrasing it in a more non offensive manner is far easier than I thought.
STOP, TAKE A DEEP BREATH… then answer. If I just can’t bring myself to be respectful or loose the tone….
ASK TO BE EXCUSED! walking away isn’t a weakness, it’s just plain intelligent. One can not be respectful or constructive when they are upset or hurt. It’s about gathering your thoughts for a more productive conversation later.
Thanks to the help of others here…. it’s officially been 6 days and NOT A SINGLE PUNISHMENT FOR MY MOUTH!
I think the kneeling time I spend alone is part of it. It’s become a great reflection period and considerably helps my transition from work to home. Spending just ten minutes alone with my thoughts seems to be doing the trick combined with the great advise I got here.
Now that I understand how this behavior made Sir feel, it is essential to continue my kneeling ritual each day and re center my thoughts. BEFORE I GET IN TROUBLE!
Something clicked, with the help of new friends I found here. THANK YOU!

I love this! Good job! I need to figure this out too. I am such a smart ass and so many times I either have a smart remark (then I have to recite SOAP) or just shut my trap and I end up with “the look” as Mr calls it which is, apparently, just as disrespectful.

Thank you for sharing your journey to your light bulb moment!
