• Initial Forays into BDSM Fiction

    Posted by his-submissive-wife on at

It was actually stumbling across some online BDSM fanfiction that led me to start exploring this lifestyle about 6 months ago. Since then, I can’t seem to find enough good fiction books to learn more about D/s, kink and BDSM in general. Not to mention reading it keeps me simmering all the time, which Sir certainly enjoys and encourages.

Some of my favorites so far have included The Doms of Genesis series (Jenna Jacob), Boston Doms (Jane Henry & Maisy Archer), and The Dungeon Fantasy Club Books (Anya Summers). As enticing as all of these have been, my favorite books so far have been the three Bound to You (Jane Henry) books, as they are actually about a couple who could be “real people” and have a storyline that could conceivably happen in every day life. I find that kind of plot hard to come by in this genre, and sorely wish there were more.

So, if anyone has recommendations about fiction that is based more in “real life” than in “fantasy” with D/s and/or BDSM flair, please share. Or, if you just finished the hottest book ever and think everyone should read it even if could never really happen, would love to hear about that as well! I’ve never read so many books in such a short time, and I’m afraid I won’t have anything to put on my Christmas list for Sir at this rate. 😉

I really enjoyed the Masters at Arms series by Kallypso Masters.

    • Hi Bethsub,

Yes, I saw that on one of the earlier posts and downloaded the first book today. It looks promising! Thanks for the recommendation (again!).

I do like darker reading, but my all time favorite series (it is fantasy though) is The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy by Anne Rice ( formerly published under the pen name A.N. Roquelaure).
As far as more “non-fantasy” books, I have really enjoyed The Indebted series by Pepper Winters that LT turned me on to.
I do like the fantastical literature more though, because I believe that all BDSM writing is just that…a fantasy that can never actually mirror a true dynamic in real life and knowing that going into it, doesn’t set me up for false expectations or disappointment 😉

I love the darker reading as well. I just finished the indebted series the beginning of this week. It was very intense, but I cried and cried esp the last couple chapters…..

  • Hi Veruca,

Wise words, indeed. I am definitely having to come to terms with the idea that the BDSM and D/s fiction I am reading cannot ever be reality – most of these people are independently wealthy and have no kids, which is far enough from my own life to solidly earn the title of fantasy no matter how realistic the rest may be. LOL

But your counsel is well taken, as I think relying on BDSM fiction as my primary source of information for this lifestyle has already created some unfair and unrealistic expectations for how we create this in a way that works within our actual lives. So, thanks for the subtle advice. That’s one of the reasons I’m glad to have discovered this website. Having real people share real stories should be far more valuable and informative, I hope.

It is all still really fun to read though! LOL
Just take it for what it is and use is as more “inspiration” than a guide.
      Glad I could help!

My favorite so far are “the impossibles” series and the “renegade” series by Julia Sykes. The Doms in these books aren’t rich billionaires but but police officers, or FBI…. The level of trust needed in a Ds and the way these Doms love and care for their sub us what drew me to start exploring thus lifestyle. (Esp when they have a sub of their own and not just playing…). Yes they are fiction but written by someone actually in the lifestyle as well so I think that makes it a little more real if you will. I also will read books on submissive training as well.

    • SuSumisa,

Thank you for the recommendations – I will check those out. I, too, love to read the way Doms are devoted to their own subs, and was drawn to this lifestyle as a result. And while I love fantasizing about the billionaire doms subduing the reluctant and/or inexperienced sub, I definitely need to balance those stories with some more everyday people, I think!

I have read 23 BDSM novels in the last couple of months (obsessed, much?)

Enthrall Sessions by Vanessa Fewings is what got me to broach the topic of BDSM with my husband.

Cherise Sinclair’s Shadowlands series is great because the Doms are inherently strong and masculine but still approachable. Her standalone novel, The Dom’s Dungeon is at the top of my list. I found the characters to be very relatable.

I also really liked Legally Bound by Rynne Raines. The characters have great chemistry from the first chapter.

Upon the recommendations of this group, I am starting on Debt Inheritance by Pepper Winters. 😉
